Aquifer Levels Rising Due To Increased Rains

This week there has been a sharp increase in the number of Floridan Aquifer wells within the SRWMD that are at very high levels compared to the historical record.

As of December 9th, 41% of continuously monitored District wells were at or above the 90th percentile, compared to 29% on the 2nd of December.

Groundwater levels are especially high in Taylor, Bradford, and Alachua counties, as well as eastern Levy County (see attached figure). Because of this, heavy rainfall that is forecast for late Thursday and Friday of this week is likely to cause flooding even in areas that are far from local rivers.
