Priorities & Process
The District's
Florida Forever Work Plan, guides the land acquisition program. District staff updates this document each year, conducts hearings for its review by the public, and then presents it to the District Governing Board for approval.
The District submits the approved plan to the Legislature and the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection as part of the Comprehensive Annual Report. Department of Environmental Protection staff use the Florida Forever Work Plan in their review of District requests for funding of specific projects.
Each year's Florida Forever Work Plan contains a listing of priority areas of interest for acquisition. Voluntary offers from private landowners are considered using the acquisition criteria found in the plan.
Projects that meet the basic criteria for acquisition and are approved for detailed assessment by the Governing Board will appear on the list of projects shown below. Each link in the table below will open a document in Adobe PDF format (approx. 1MB) containing a description and map for the particular project. For completed projects, the information was current as of the date of the public hearing at which the acquisition was approved. For projects not yet complete, the information is based on cursory data provided by the landowner or assembled from generally available sources at the time that negotiations were authorized.
