LIVE OAK, FLA., OCT. 1, 2019 – The Suwannee River Water Management District (District) Governing Board adopted the Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-2020 budget of $65,560,980 and millage rate of 0.3840. Approved on September 24, the annual budget supports improving water resources within the District boundaries.
The Governing Board approval reduced the millage rate for tax payers from 0.3948 in the previous fiscal year to 0.3840. Under a 0.3840 millage rate – 38.4 cents for every $1,000 assessed property value – the owner of a $200,000 house with a $50,000 homestead exemption would pay $57.60 in the coming year in property taxes to the District.
The District maintains an emphasis on springs projects and programs. The budget identifies $37,418,000 designated for projects related to springs restoration, springs protection and alternative water supply development, which will improve water quality and enhance water supply. The District has identified 20 water quality projects that are estimated to reduce nutrients by 1.55 million pounds per year.
“The budget reflects the District’s unwavering commitment to its core mission areas of water quality, water supply, flood protection and natural systems,” said Hugh Thomas, Executive Director of the District. “We look forward to continuing strong partnerships with our communities and stakeholders to protect and restore our springs and water bodies throughout the District.”
