[ARCHIVED] Learn more about SRWMD by visiting Live Oak’s Discovery Trail

LIVE OAK, FLA., MAY 5, 2023 – Have you been to the Discovery Trail in Live Oak lately? If not, now’s a good time to visit and learn about the important water resources of our region.

Parents, children, and other local residents can tour the trail – operated by the Suwannee River Regional Library – and learn through books and stories that educate and, oftentimes, relate to their area. For the next several weeks, however, visitors will be able to learn about the Suwannee River Water Management District (District), its efforts to protect our important water resources, and interesting information about our region.

“This provides a wonderful opportunity for education and is a great community resource,” said Troy Roberts, Outreach and Communications Manager for the District. “We are very appreciative of our local library for this valuable, educational benefit where children and adults have the opportunity to learn while enjoying the outdoors.”

The informational panels are designed in a way that even the youngest of ages could understand. Visitors can learn how many springs are located in the District (there are 450), some specific ways to conserve water, the importance of keeping our springs, lakes, and rivers litter-free, and more. This information is presented alongside photography featuring several of the most scenic sights in the District.

The mission of the Suwannee River Water Management District is to protect and manage water resources using science-based solutions to support natural systems and the needs of the public. The District holds true to the belief of water for nature, water for people. Headquartered in Live Oak, Florida, the District serves 15 surrounding north-central Florida counties.
